This July 2011 Peru is hosting several celebrations in commemoration of the 100 years since the discovery of Machu Picchu by the famous explorer Hiram Bingham. There is said to be a big event happening which will feature 200 actors and portrays the Inca Pachacutec arriving to the site of Machu Picchu, this festivity is supposed to conclude with an offering to Pachamama (mother earth). This definitely sounds like it will defiantly be something memorable that will put Peru in the world view it had in 2007 when it was named one of the official Wonders of the world.
Celebrations will be taking place in Cusco as well, many travelers arriving to Cusco wil be able to take part on the festivities which will take focus in the city. Now it is important to mention the Machu Picchu will be closed for this special date (July 7th) but people who have already bought their pass to Machu Picchu will have access.
Nevertheless this is an important time to visit this country since all of Peru will have festivities celebrating this momentous occasion. Imagine heading over to the Amazon rainforest while celebrations are in full effect that is something I am sure most people will want to witness and experience firsthand.
Your entire Peru vacation package can include Cusco but you should also consider all the additional locations which are available as the Amazon, the warm beaches of northern Peru and of course Lima and the rest of the coastal region. All these destinations will have something special to offer during not just the coming festivities but for the entire year as well.
